Sets are named by their range. A longer set usually costs more, about 10% per extra club. Where the order looks wrong, set size is standing in for age: a 3-PW is often a nineties set, a 6-PW a recent one.

Spread over its clubs, the set comes to $139 a club, against $140 for a single iron. That is a division, not a price any one iron fetches: buying one at a time costs more, and breaking a set up to sell rarely returns this much each.
Seven sets in ten stop at the pitching wedge; one in four carries on to the approach wedge. Buy a set that stops at the PW and the gap below it is yours to fill, usually from the wedge market.

How to read these numbers

Market price is the median of fixed-price sales. That is what one costs you today, and it is the number most people mean by what a club is worth.

Sets and single irons are two markets. The number we lead with is the set, because sets are where the money is. A single iron is what a replacement costs, not a share of a set.

Prices are in US dollars, from completed eBay sales in the last 90 days. Listings that are not this exact club — shafts sold alone, headcovers, tour-issue collectibles, multi-club lots — are removed before anything is calculated. Read the full method.
